A total of 17 sediment cores, each 4 m in length, were taken, and a dredging concept for the extraction of the sediments was developed in order to recover the material in compliance with GÜBAK requirements.

Sediment thickness was surveyed along various transects using a GPS-assisted sounding pole and a free-fall penetrometer, and calculated on an areal basis. In addition, a multibeam echosounder survey and volume balance were conducted.
